Aside from fishing at fish outs, we exchange fly fishing information, socialize, eat, and enjoy the great outdoors.
Mentoring is typically available at fish outs to help you improve your fly fishing skills. To arrange for mentoring, contact us at email@example.com a few days prior to the fish out. Please note what you'd like help with (casting, fly selection, etc.). Mentoring sessions at fish outs are typically limited to 15 minutes or so.
We generally encourage attendees to practice keep fish wet catch and release fishing. We do not object to the responsible harvest of fish.
As always, fish outs are subject to changes... possibly even at the last minute. Changes are announced on the club's announce mailing list. As a general rule, if there are chain controls up on the route to/from the fish out, the fish out is canceled. Likewise for fire controls.
We recommend wearing an appropriate personal floatation device when floating or wading in above-the-knee waters. We also recommend use of wading staffs in running water. We recommend wearing polarized sunglasses or other eye protection gear while fly fishing (or near anyone throwing hooks).
Fish Out Organizers Needed!
Members are encouraged to volunteer to organize a fish out! As the fish out organizer, also known as the fish master, you get to pick the time and place! Organizing a fish out is pretty easy. No fly fishing skills are needed as the organizer's role is focused bringing members together.
The fish out organizer is not responible for organizing or providing mentoring! This is handled by our mentoring team.
Below is an outline of what is involved. Help and advice is available. Contact us if interested in organizing a fish out at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Before the Fish Out
Pick your time and place. Discuss with club management, namely the club's President for scheduling and any necessary approvals.
The organizer should try to be available at the general meeting preceding the fish out to help answer any questions folks might have.
Obtain a club banner for display during the fish out.
When organizing your first fish out, best to keep it simple!
The "before" tasks need to be completed by the 15th of the month preceding the month the event is held during. For instance, if you are organizing a June fish out, these tasks need to be completed by the 15th of May. But start early!
During the Fish Out
Be early to your event! Put up a club banner to help attendees find you. Greet attendees and let them know any relevant information, such as when to meet back to share stories, etc.. Take a few photos! Ask attendees who have taken photos to share them (post to Facebook chat group or email to email@example.com).
After the Fish Out
Share your photos to our Facebook chat group and/or send them to firstname.lastname@example.org. Optionally write a brief report for inclusion in our newsletter to be published along with a photo taken during the event. Return the club banner.
It is best to complete the "after" tasks within a few days of the event.
