Fly Tying
Tie-a-Dozen Challenge!
We need flies for our service programs! We challenge tiers to tie a dozen identical flies and gift them to our service programs. For more info, see our Tie-a-Dozen Challenge page.
Learn to Tie
We recommend those wanting to learn to tie flies enroll in a hands-on introductory fly tying course.
Nevada Department of Wildlife frequently holds free courses with all equipment, tools, and materials provided. While most of these are held in the Reno area or even further away, they are occasionally held in the Carson Valley. See their registration site for current schedule.
Carson Fly Fishing Club holds free classes in Carson City annually.
The Angler's Edge offers great classes in Gardnerville (fee required).
Members of the High Sierra Fly Casters can take advantage of our mentoring program to improve their fly tying skills, to learn new patterns, and/or to help selecting patterns.
